Adelaide sextet The Fak consists of singer Tyson Mahoney, lead guitarist Jamie Inferno, rhythm guitarist Whitey, Keyboardist Hunter, bassist Birdman and drummer Todd James. Although hailing from Adelaide’s own hip-hop heartland of the southern suburbs this six piece blend their own mix of alt metal and funk fusion to produce one of the most eclectic and exciting new sounds by any young band. After Tyson and Todd entered a local battle of the bands as a two-piece in 2005 and placed third out of fifteen, the pair quickly recruited Whitey and Hunter who had become regular fixtures at their gigs. After the addition of Birdman and Jamie Inferno in 2006 the picture was complete and The Fak began. After a solid year on the local live circuit and a home made video for “Pillage and Plunder” successfully screening on Rage ABC, The Fak made their first foray into studios to record their debut EP ‘Stone Teapots in a Land of Pine’ late 2007. Through 2008, and with the critical momentum of Stone Teapots propelling them into the mainstream media, The Fak continued to follow their first love and gigged throughout Adelaide’s’ venues solidly. After hitting a critical mass with a number of sold out live dates at the legendry Gov and internationally renown Fuse Festival, another jaunt into the studio was inevitable. 2009 Finds The Fak on the cusp of the releasing of their second EP Girl Dancing. This time recorded at Hillside studios with Matt Hills, Girl Dancing marks a radical departure for The Fak as they transpose their live energy onto record with spectacular results. On record, the boys create quite a unique sound. From seamless melodies to razor sharp screams, and with irresistible pop sensibilities thrown in for good measure, it’s a case of Red Hot Chilli Peppers meets Jeff Buckley meets Korn. The eclectic nature of the bands repertoire ensures that they escape being restricted by labelling and pigeonholing, and are truly a band that must be heard to fully understand.
The true Fak experience, however, lies in their live show. Relentless with their energy, and perpetually entertaining, The Fak live show is absolutely electric. So brace yourselves. |
